Designer Dreams

It's not often that I talk about Haute Couture on this blog, but Paris Fashion Week (among other things) got me thinking. Among the many SS14/Paris Fashion Week shows, some of my favorites were Elie Saab, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen. Although it's unlikely that I will ever be able to wear things like this in my daily life, it's okay to dream. That being said, I'm posting some of my favorite looks from the runways- and also some looks inspired by the shows. xo Katie

Elie Saab
When I think of Elie Saab, I automatically think of embellished, floaty princess dresses. Not exactly practical in daily life. This look would be good for a night out / school dance.

Untitled #1390
Marc Jacobs
I tried to tie together the Marc by Marc Jacobs and Marc Jacobs in this between the military inspired jacket, silk layers, slip on sneakers, and slouchy slacks. There were also several satin neck ties in his shows. And unless you wanted to cut your hair into the bowl cut 'do, I'd suggest just keeping your hair a bit messy and casual to go with this look.

Louis Vuitton
This was definitely my favorite runway show ever. I love anything all black and the dramatic elements just added to the quality of this show. This all black -but blue jean- outfit is inspired by the work Marc Jacobs did for Louis Vuitton. The show featured gems, glitter, feathers, etc. This flapper inspired shirt is the perfect piece for everyday. Speaking of feathers, although the headdresses were beautiful they might be a bit too over the top for everyday wear, instead just wear a simple headband with gems.

Best Fashion of 2013

Untitled #1171

2013 was a great year in fashion, especially celebrity style. From red carpet to magazine covers, there were a few celebrities in particular that caught my eye all year long. And of course there were a couple that everyone was talking about all year long. So, to finish off this year, with exactly ten hours left in 2013 as I'm typing this, let's look back on some of the best dressed celebs of this year.

Miley Cyrus
Everyone, and I mean everyone, has heard all about Miley all year long. Her new album dropped, she was featured on seven other songs, she's broken a couple VEVO records, and she's had a few great outfits. Her white suit at the AMAs was one of my favorites.I also loved her in menswear at the Jingle Bell Ball red carpet.

Miranda Kerr
This year had its ups and downs for Miranda Kerr. Even though she split from her husband Orlando Bloom, her style was on point all year long (like usual). I love seeing Miranda in the airport or just walking around with her son Flynn. Her style gives me inspiration for everyday looks. Some signature pieces I think of when I think of Miranda are: Rag & Bone floppy hat, Givenchy Antigona bag, Stella McCartney blazers, most things Saint Laurent, skinny jeans and loose blouses, and the list goes on and on and on. I'll post some of my favorite looks we've seen from Miranda's street style this year.

 Ariana Grande
Even though this is very embarrassing, I admit I rang in the New Year last year babysitting and checking the jariana tag on tumblr crazily. I think it's safe to say Ariana was in two pretty adorable relationships this year. But aside from her romantic life, Ariana had a great year. She came out with her album Yours Truly, she was number 1 on the Billboard top 100, preformed so many iconic venues and shows, she started a new tv show, and on top of it all, she dyed her hair blonde. I'd say Ariana had amazing street style as well as red carpet.

Eleanor Calder
Although we hardly know anything about Eleanor's personal life, we do know a lot about her personal style. In 2013 Eleanor made the transformation from simple, sheer shirts, skinny jeans, collars, and flats to an edgier, modern style. I can only hope for more pictures of her outfits in 2014.

Austin Butler
Because I didn't want this post to be all about the ladies, and also because Austin Butler (aka Sebastian Kydd) has been red hot this year. Being in The Carrie Diaries has definitely put him on a lot of teenage girl's radars. He has that cool, bad boy style that we all love. From leather jackets to black ties, Vanessa Hudgen's boyfriend always looks amazing... And he dresses pretty well too.

Kim and Khloe Kardashian
This has been a Kardashian filled year. Khloe split from Lamar, Kim became a mom, both had major weight loss and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Since Kim has been with Kanye, her style has changed. For the better and for worse. Khloe has kept to her style, and she looks even better than before.

And here are a few random favorites from this year featuring Lauren Conrad, Danielle Bernstein, Alexa Chung, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Kendall and Kylie Jenner, and others.

Let's all hope 2014 is just as good in the fashion scene xx Katie

White Soles

Aside from having to take my own pictures today with my phone, a timer app, and a lot of awkward, I've recently bought these Blonde&Blonde boots from Bank and I am obsessed. I tend to wear a lot of black and they give an all black outfit a nice contrast- also they look so modern and edgy. I might put up a post/review on these boots in the future so look out for that

Nail File: Favorite Winter Polishes

As we all know, the weather is cooling way down here. One of my favorite things from season to season is the change in nail polish color. I'm usually into darker colors for fall and winter, like plum, grey and black. There are also a few brighter shades I like to wear for a pop. Read on to see which colors I'm loving lately.

Red
Obviously the holidays are coming up fast and a favorite among the festive colors is red. Red is a color that I wear all year long almost every other week. There are a few different shades and textures, as with any polish out there. My favorites are the classic red with no sparkle like this Butter London and a darker shade with some shimmer like this by OPI.

Navy/Plum
Darker colors are embraced in the colder months, so if you're not ready to go for a full on black, two good colors are navy and plum. I usually like navy colors without any sparkles like this Essie or shimmer and plum with a little shimmer in it like this by OPI.

Sparkle
Like I mentioned before, the holidays are fast approaching and what better way to celebrate than confetti glitter on your nails? Maybe if you're not into that much sparkle you could do a french tip with some silver confetti or just one finger with a little glitter. My favorites are the silver confetti glitters like these two by Essie and OPI.

What are your favorite polish colors in the winter?

Loving Leopard

Untitled #1016

I've been obsessed with coats lately; especially leopard print. I think they look so cool with an all black outfit or with jeans and a plain t shirt. Leopard can either go very well or very bad. I think what you pair it with can make all the difference between making it look chic or just plain tacky. I've put together a few sets of different styles of coats/jackets with different outfits for different occasions.

Untitled #1009

Leopard and leather:
This outfit is probably my favorite outfit of the ones I've made. I'd definitely wear this out and about. It looks so effortlessly cool and chic. It also adds in the leather pants which seem to be a new trend lately.

Untitled #1012
Another way to wear it with a leather bottom, a bit dressier. Play with the different textures, like the furry jacket with knits and leather. It makes the outfit more interesting and a lot more fun. The gold accents on the skirt, boots and bracelet also pull this outfit more together.

Untitled #1008

Cobalt and cheetah:
A dressier way to wear a leopard coat is with some black heels and a bright blue dress. Cobalt blue and leopard go so well together, they really compliment each other, I think.

Untitled #1018
Another way to wear leopard is with some destroyed skinny jeans, ankle boots and a peplum top. The peplum gives the outfit a little more of a dressy vibe and the jeans and boots keep it casual.

Untitled #1010
Daring in denim:
Tying some trends into these looks is a definite plus. Dungarees are really in lately and since it's winter here in New York, bringing the shorts version into the winter is easy just with some tights and a sweater. Also a good coat is a must and why not make it leopard print, right?

Untitled #1017

Definite Miranda Kerr vibes are coming off of this outfit for me. Between the loafers and floppy hat, it gives a really put together but still casual with the jeans and sweater look. Again, the gold ties it together and keeps it interesting.

So, if you're ever hesitant to rock the animal print because you don't want to look like Snooki cerca 2010, just remember to keep it toned down and to make it a statement.

Hope you enjoyed
